A position on a team refers to the joint arrangement of a team on or in it, and to the standardized place of any individual in that arrangement. Much instruction, strategy, and reporting is organized by a set of individual player positions that is standard for the sport.
Or you may prefer the geometrical definition:
In geometry, a position or position vector, also known as location vector or radius vector, is a vector which represents the position of a point P in space in relation to an arbitrary reference origin.
So either way you look at it, your position is your place, your spot, your location. Is it your choice though? Do your teammates see you in the same position? Obviously some positions are gained naturally, either through attrition or family situation, but does being the senior member of your team or being parents mean you’re a good leader?
Let’s talk about our families for a minute. You hear lots of people say any guy can father a child, but it takes a real man to be a father. I wonder if the real root of that comment isn’t; Any man can be a father but it takes a special man to lead his family? Have you accepted your position in the family dynamic? Do you give your position on your family team the commitment it requires?
How about at church? What makes a leader in the church? What is your position there? What position do others see you in? I tend to be drawn toward the “more experienced” men in my church, I’m not sure why that is, but maybe subconsciously I am looking for some leadership, or I consciously I am trying to figure out what my place on the team is.
At work and with your peers I think your position may change based on what is going on with the team. Maybe because the project requires a skill set you don’t have, or knowledge you have yet to attain. I think your position with your friends is less important as you get older because hopefully there is less chance of someone doing something stupid.

I couldn’t help but think of a verse in The Book of Esther in the Old Testament
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, [then] shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for [such] a time as this?
Esther 4:14 KJV
Or in a more modern translation:
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Esther 4:14 NIV
Sometimes our position is entireely situational. But, that is a subject of another discussion, yes?
