Why do I need a leader? They just get in the way, I don’t need anyone telling me what to do, or leading me. I am the master of my own universe; I decide what I do, when I do and how I do it. If I want someone else’s opinion I will ask for it.
I spent 18 years trying to get away from my parents leadership, now I got cops, politicians, God and a boss setting rules, who needs another one. I follow my own rules, I follow my own path, I don’t need you.
I’ve read stories about great leaders like General Custer who LEAD his troops to a slaughter, and I have read in the Bible where it says in Luke chapter 22, verse 26: “…Let the greatest among you become the youngest and the leader as the one who serves, “ and didn’t Lot let his wife get turned into a pillar of salt? As I look around the world, it is full of
what I would call bad leaders, the late Kim Jong-Il, Omar Al-Bashir of the Sudan just to name a few, heck there are so many Parade magazine publishes a top ten list of worst dictators every year. I don’t see a top ten list of best leaders published anywhere. Here we are in the US just days away from the dreaded “fiscal cliff”, and we all wonder if there will be social security when we retire, do WE even have good leaders?
Are we sure we would not be better off on our own? Without government, without religion, what could really happen? Wouldn’ we just continue to work and provide for our families, wouldn’t we continue to see our friends and enjoy our holidays?
I think we would be fine, all for themselves is what I say. Do what you need to do, mind your own business and take care of yourself. Let doctors and storekeepers charge whatever they want, let individuals handle disputes themselves, what is the worst thing that could happen?
There is nothing like taking a thought and pressing it to the extremes. So, I think I will do that.
If we use your logic then let’s consider eschewing all guidelines as you suggest? How about choosing not to be bound by the rules around marriage? Suppose I would want to share my love with another woman? (Assuming I could find one gullible enough.) What would that do to the family unit? And this is just one example.
As much as we would like to contemplate a world with no rules. It is the opposite that we need. We may not like the rules. But we like knowing the rules and knowing that they are there to establish order.
As I was reading your post I was drifting back to the days of the Wild West. For the most part everyone was living peacefully among their neighbors. However, there were times when the outlaws would ride into town to get their way through whatever persuasive method was most effectively, and at times this meant shootin’ up the town. I still remember watching the Western where Clint Eastwood was trying to stand up for what was right while everyone else turned their heads. He was beaten to an inch of his life and somehow survived to leave town. Little did the town folks know he would return someday to make things right. Of course, making things right was what he determined as being right. Lessons were learned and leaders were developed through the crisis, but I’m not sure it’s a great example to follow. The community needed laws in place to govern them, but also needed to stand behind their leader as he enforced them. There’s probably no place in the world that does it perfectly, so hopefully we will continually define the process.

I am not really wondering if I will have social security, pretty sure I won’t. It is questionable if anyone in our government is actually leading. I inadvertently ended up on an anarchist forum a couple of weeks back. What I found interesting was that they do believe in organization, but on a more micro level. I actually saw some very interesting discussions about respecting other peoples liberties that alter from each other. Makes me wonder what our government actually talks about.
